It’s time to Hear the Word! Our reading is adapted from John, Chapter 4 Verses 1-26, titled, Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, read by Jimmy, age 6. Now, let’s Hear the Word, together!

Jesus passed through a Samaritan town on his way to Galilee.

He was tired and sat by a well while his disciples bought food.

A Samaritan woman arrived. Jesus said, “Give me a drink.”

The woman was surprised, “Why are you, a Jewish man, asking me, a Samaritan, for a drink? Jews and Samaritans don’t speak to one another!”

Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who I am, you would ask me for a drink and I would give you living water.”

“Sir,” she said, “You don’t even have a bucket, and look how deep this well is! Where would you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, the man who dug this well for us long ago?”

Jesus replied, “All who drink from this well will become thirsty again, but whoever drinks the living water I give will never thirst. The living water becomes a well of eternal life within them.”

“Sir,” the Samaritan woman said, “Give me this living water so I never thirst again!”

Jesus replied, “Go, and return here with your husband.”

She replied, “I don’t have a husband.”

Jesus said, “This is true. You’ve had five husbands and are now living with another man.”

“You know so much, I see you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say worship is to be done in Jerusalem.”

Jesus said, “You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We Jews worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. An hour is coming, in fact, it’s here, when those who worship God will worship in Spirit and truth.”

The woman replied, “I know the Messiah is coming and he will explain everything to us.”

Jesus replied, “I am he.”

“But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.”

John 4:14 (CSB)

Takeaway

This Bible reading was adapted from John, Chapter 4 verses 1-26. Notice how Jesus boldly proclaims that he is the messiah to a woman most Jewish men would never speak to. Jesus shows the woman that God knows her and loves her, and that God’s gift of redemption is for all people.
