The Word was God radio transcript
It’s time to Hear the Word! Our reading is adapted from John chapter 1, verses 1-27, titled “The Word Was God,” read by Elise, age 9. Now, let’s hear the Word together!
In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. And God created everything through Him. The Word gave light and life to everything, from elephants and birds, to whales and people.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. And soon, the light was coming into the world as a man named Jesus.
So God sent John the Baptist to teach and prepare people for Jesus’ arrival. Picture this! John the Baptist stood in front of a large crowd. He shouted, “Prepare, the Word! The one who gives light and life to us all is coming to live with us!” John gathered large crowds, which made the Jewish leaders wonder who he was and what was so important about him. They sent priests, known as Pharisees, and temple assistants, known as Levites to question John.
“Who are you?”
John replied, “I am not the Word. I am not the promised Messiah.”
“Well then, who are you? Are you the old prophet Elijah from long ago?”
“I am not.”
“Well, who are you? Tell us something, anything.”
John replied with the words of the prophet Isaiah, “I am a voice shouting in the wilderness. Make way for the Lord!”
The Pharisees asked, “If you are not the Messiah, what rate do you have to baptize these people?”
“I baptize with water, but right here in the crowd is someone you don’t recognize. I’m not even worthy to untie the straps of his sandals. He is the Word. He is the Lamb of God.”
This Bible reading is from John chapter 1, verses 1-27. The line, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it,” is comforting to me. Much like the light of a light house guides a ship to safety, Jesus is our light, he guides and shows us the way.
